Itinerary:

 

Day 1    Canada – Narita

Begin your adventure; depart from Vancouver or your hometown via Vancouver to Narita on Japan Airlines.   En route, you will cross the International Dateline.

 

Day 2    Narita – Bangkok

Arrive Narita International Airport, take an immediately connection to Bangkok.  Upon arrival, transfer to hotel.

Hotel: Rembrandt or similar

 

Day 3    Bangkok                                                                                                                        

After breakfast, visit the home of the King’s of Siam of the Chakri Dynasty, originally built by King Rama I, it served as the royal residence until 1946.  Today the palace is still used on certain occasions for visiting royalty or special guests of the Kingdom.  Adjoining the Grand Palace you will find the Wat Phra Keo, this is probably the best known of the royal temples.  It is regarded as the most important temple in all Thailand and it is the venue of numerous religious ceremonies in which the King participates, especially at the beginning of each of the three seasons when His Majesty the King changes the elaborate robes of the Buddha image, carved out of a single piece of emerald-green jasper.  (B)

 

Day 4    Bangkok – Saigon                                                                                                       

Fly to Saigon.  Upon arrival, transfer to hotel. (B)

Day 5    Saigon                                                                                                                           

This morning, you will take an excursion to Cu Chi Tunnels.  The Cu Chi Tunnels were an important Vietcong base during the American War.  Stretching over 200 km, this incredible underground network, dug by hand out of hard laterite, connected command posts, hospitals, shelter and weapon factories.  Today, you can walk through the area and learn about the day-to-day life of the VC, see the cleverly disguised entrances and elaborate booby-traps, and even venture inside the tunnels, some of which have been modified to accommodate tourists.

Afternoon, sightseeing in Saigon.  Begin your tour of this exciting city with a tour of the historic center, strolling along Dong Khoi Street, formerly known as the Rue Catinat, the main shopping thoroughfare and heart of old colonial Saigon.  Pass by classic European-style landmarks such as the ornate City Hall (Hotel de Ville), the old Opera House (both may only be viewed from the outside), and pay a quick visit to the neo-Romanesque Notre Dame Cathedral and the Central Post Office.  Afterwards dive into modern history with a tour of the Reunification Palace.  Continue to the harrowing War Remnants Museum, which comprehensively documents the travails of the long Vietnam-American War.  Inside are detailed photographic exhibitions; outside is a collection of tanks, planes and weapons.  Finally, end up at the central Ben Thanh Market, where vendors display a vast array of goods and handicrafts, appealing to every taste. Day 6    Saigon                                                                                                                           

Today, take an excursion to My Tho with a boat trip to Mekong River Islands.  My Tho, a bustling town in the rich agricultural region of the Mekong Delta and visit the Vinh Trang Pagoda, a beautiful temple and a sanctuary for orphans and other needy children.  Afterwards board a local boat to explore the islands of Mekong, stopping at a fruit orchard to enjoy fruit and tea while listening to local music.  The trip also includes a brief sampan ride through the tiny waterways that thread the island. Day 7    Saigon – Siem Reap                                                                                                   

Transfer to Saigon airport and fly to Siem Reap.  Upon arrival, transfer to hotel.   (B/D)

Day 8    Siem Reap                                                                                                                    

Today, you will visit the Angkor Wat, the national symbol and the highlight of any visit to Cambodia.  This is the largest, best preserved, and most religiously significant of the Angkor temples.    Next, visit the fortified city of Angkor Thom covers an area of 10 square km.  Today’s tour ends with a visit of Ta Prohm, one of the most popular attractions of Angkor as much of the jungle has not been cleared and it looks very much as most of Angkor monuments would have appeared when European explorers first stumbled across them. Day 9    Siem Reap                                                                                                                    

Today, take an excursion to Tonle Sap Lake with boat trip.  Tonle Sap Lake, located in the heart of Cambodia, this extraordinary lake swells up to seven times its original size during the monsoon season.  Its ecosystem is one of the richest and most diverse in the region.  This boat trip will explore the floating fishing villages that live at the edges of the lake, passing submerged forest and fishing farms.  Afternoon is free at your leisure. Day 10  Siem Reap – Bangkok                                                                                                

Transfer from hotel to airport and fly back to Bangkok.  Overnight in Bangkok.

Day 11  Bangkok -  Narita – Canada                                                                                      

Depart for your hometown on Japan Airlines with an immediate connection in Narita.  It is the same day when you arrive home as you will re-cross the International Dateline. (B)
